Letter to Voters

Thank you for taking time to research the candidates on the ballot! I'm Andrew Carlson and I'm asking for your vote on April 1 for Fox Point J2 School District board member. I have been a resident of Bayside for 15 years and have three kids in the district - a first grader at Stormonth Elementary and a fifth and seventh grader at Bayside Middle School.

I am passionate about promoting the interests of our students, parents, and general public with proper governance, fiscal responsibility, and accountability of the education system. Having children currently enrolled in both schools means I'm involved in the daily happenings across the full district. I would be the only board member with a child at Stormonth and I believe having an active connection to a school which educates more than half our students is valuable.

My professional career is as a consulting actuary. I have experience with financials and data, and have made a career out of discussing them so that everyone can understand them when making decisions. This will be important in the upcoming term as the Board approves long term operating budgets.

I appreciate you taking an interest in the School Board election and hope I can represent you for the next three years. If you have any questions for me, I can be reached at 414-303-3458 and adcarlson1@gmail.com.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Carlson

About Andrew

I have lived in Bayside for 15 years, and have enjoyed it immensely. My wife, Jamie, and I started our family here, and haven't left. Our three sons all currently attend school in the district - we have a 1st grader, 5th grader, and a 7th grader.

I was raised in Greendale on the opposite side of Milwaukee County - another village known for good schools. I benefited from renovations at Greendale Intermediate School while in attendance, so I can relate to the excitement of the newly built Bayside Middle School and renovated Stormonth Elementary. Thank you for your support of those efforts and helping make our community a destination for families!

In high school I loved science (especially Physics and Biology), and in college combined that with business, probability, and finance to follow a path toward actuarial science. I entered the workforce as an aspiring actuary working with pension plans and retiree medical plans. As a consultant, I have had a behind-the-scenes look into the priorities and decision making processes at many companies. While I am back to pension consulting now, I spent some time in product development for a life insurance company, and I appreciated being a stay-at-home dad during the COVID years.

I enjoy being involved in the community and in youth activities. Jamie and I attended the open-to-the-public tour of Stormonth before the building referendum and were able to ask questions of the designers and builders. Like many of you, I've participated in RINGO (Reading is Now Going On) with the K5 classes, I got a kick out of being the "secret reader" one week in K4, and I've volunteered for BAN (Bayside Activity Night). When I was stay-at-home dad, I did cool stuff like chaperone the 4th grade trip to the state capitol and you may have seen me one year as the Cupcake mascot at the Cupcake Color Run PTO Fundraiser. Most recently, I've been helping as Assistant Scoutmaster for Scouts BSA Troop 391.

I enjoy camping, mountain biking, and playing Legend of Zelda console games. In addition to sharing those hobbies, board games are a fun thing we do as a family, and I recently learned  to play Sheepshead.

If you need to reach me, I'm at 414-303-3458 or adcarlson1@gmail.com.
